About
Do you know the word “opsimath”? It’s one of those words from a word-a-day calendar I had years ago, and the reason I remember this unusual word is that it describes me. It means “a person who learns late in life,” your basic late-bloomer. Allow me to take a bow and introduce myself. Hello, all.
Yes, I am one those folks who has had a long, long gestation period (can you say decades?) before I popped into bloom. It has taken me the better part of this lifetime to put it all together, and let me tell you, it has not been as I originally imagined.
As a result, it is no easy feat to tell you who I am. The lens keeps wavering, and what defined me years ago, no longer works today. And let me be clear: I am still a work in progress.
For example, in the past, I worked in corporate America. I’ve also served as a suicide hot-line responder; domestic violence and sexual assault crisis-call supervisor; intuition teacher; director of an urban drug clinic; psychologist; meditation guide; shamanic teacher and columnist, to name a few. I’ve had a private practice and founded a holistic center. But those are the hats I have worn.
My interior world is where all the action is. Like Ulysses – and he only took 20 years or so – I have been on a journey to understand humanness (yours, mine and ours) and the pursuit of wholeness. This journey has led me back to the Ancients and out to the stars; it has been a Technicolor, multi-dimensional experience. I’ve covered a lot of ground and shaken hands with some mighty energies. It has been fun – and more than interesting!
All of my inner realm travel has helped clarify where I place my focus and attention these days, and that list includes: finding peace; creating balance; looking at life through the big viewfinder; having more fun; nurturing the sacred; embracing my Invisible Allies and being open to all of the wonders and vibrations of the cosmos. I am, also, knee deep in spiritual mentoring and playing with words.
In the coming months, I will be hosting a radio show entitled “Cosmic Soup: Exploring the Invisible Realms” on Energy Talk Radio. In 2011, I am releasing two books: Balancing Act: Reflections, meditations and coping strategies for today’s fast paced whirl and Help, It’s Dark in Here, a compilation of essays from my column, “wavelength” on UPI’s Religion and Spirituality site.
